  What is ILLiad?
ILLiad is the name of the resource sharing management software the University at Buffalo Libraries use to process interlibrary loan/document delivery reqeusts. The name ILLiad can be thought of as an acronym for InterLibrary Loan Internet accessible database.
How does ILLiad improve University at Buffalo ILL services?
  1. You will find it easier to submit your interlibrary loan requests. With ILLiad, you enter your name, address, and other personal information into the system when you register as a "first time user." The system remembers your personal information and preferences whenever your submit a request.

  2. Your request will be handled more rapidly and accurately.

  3. You can get information about the status of your request through the Web at any time from any location without having to call the ILL Department.

  4. You can use ILLiad to request ILL renewals

  5. Library personnel are able to serve you better because all data about your request and its handling is stored in a searchable database. We are able to respond quickly to your inquiries about your request. We are also able to gather statistical information about the performance of the libraries that lend to us, enabling us to make better decisions when choosing a lender to supply an item.
  Who can use ILLiad?
University at Buffalo students, faculty, and staff who have an active account with the University Libraries are eligible to use ILLiad.
Why do I need a username and password to use ILLiad?

Your username and password provides secure access to information about your interlibrary loan requests as well as the personal information stored in your use profile

Your ILLiad username must be the same as your UBit name. Your password should be the same as your UBit password. ILLiad will encrypt your password so it will remain secure. Only you will know your password

What if I forget my password?

If you forget your password, contact the Interlibrary Loan Office that serves your either by telephone during business hours (see below) or by e-mail*. We will reset your password allowing you access to ILLiad. After you logon with the generic password, you should re-set your password to one that is secure.

*E-mail requests for password re-setting posted outside of business hours will receive a response within the next business day.
If I am submitting requests for a professor, how should I register?

If you are making requests for a professor, the requests should be submitted in the professor's name. This means if you are submitting the professor's requests, you will first need to register with ILLiad in his or her name. If the professor is already registered with ILLiad, you will need to know his/her username and password.

The professor must establish Proxy Privileges for you by contacting the staff at any University Libraries' Circulation Desks with the following information:

  1. Professor's name
  2. Professor's UB Card Barcode Number
  3. Your name
  4. Your proxy expieration date

This will link your record with the professor's record in the University Libraries patron database.

Note: If you are also doing your own research, then you should also register yourself in ILLiad. However, only submit requests under your name for materials needed for your own research.

What Web browser should I use?
Use a Web browser that can handle forms, tables, and frames. Microsoft Internet Explorer version 6.0 or greater is acceptable and is used the the public areas of the University Libraries. FireFox is also acceptable.
Is security a problem if I use a public workstation?

No. When you log off the public workstation, cached information is purged.

If you are still corned about the security of your interlibrary loan requests, we suggest that you access ILLiad from your personal computer only.

Why don't I see all my older requests when I look at my request history?
From time to time we purge older records from ILLiad. Our policy is to keep requests online for several years order to comply with record keeping requirements of the copyright law.
  What is electronic delivery?
Many libraries deliver photocopies of articles to us in electronic format. We print these articles and deliver them to you at a circulation desk or by mail. Using ILLiad, we will be able to offer you the option of electronic delivery of articles in PDF format (Adobe's Portable Document Format). You can read more about electronic delivery on the Electronic Delivery Information page.
Who do I contact if I have problems with or questions about ILLiad?

If you need assistance, please contact the Interlibrary Loan Office that serves you, and we will be happy to assist you in resolving problems you may have using ILLiad.

Why does my browser say that you're sending a cookie? What's in it?
The Active Server Pages technology that we use to provide live reporting for the web sends a Session ID to be stored on your machine. You can refuse this cookie and still be able to use ILL web pages and ILLiad without any problems.
